Reinvent yourself with legit life lessons from Kimmy Schmidt. | Dearest Geeks of Earth

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is made of so much wit and win, you’re going to want to binge watch the first 13 episodes in one sitting. Even when your face starts hurting from all the perma-grinning and you have to rewind every few minutes because your chuckles are louder than the dialogue. Trust me.

Unconventional and charming with just the right amount of feminist edge, the all-new original Netflix comedy – created by 30 Rock power players Tina Fey and Robert Carlock – revolves around title character Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper), a wide-eyed Indiana woman rescued from a doomsday cult masterminded by Reverend Wayne Gary Wayne (Jon Hamm). After spending 15 years in an underground bunker with three other sister wives, a naive but hardy Schmidt starts fresh in New York City.

The hilariously clueless cock-eyed optimist quickly befriends a street-wise landlady, Lillian Kaushtupper (Carol Kane), gains a deliciously gay struggling actor/roommate, Titus Andromedon (Tituss Burgess), and gets a job nannying for out-of-touch socialite Jacqueline Voorhees (Jane Krakowski). It’s just the jump-start Schmidt needs to reinvent herself, and she’s determined not to let anything stand in her way.

Schmidt has become my unlikely role model, and her resilience, along with that of her off-kilter castmates is the prevalent theme-turned-life lesson the entire show is built upon. Moving forward is what living your best life is all about after all, and wrapping that message in clever turns of phrase brings the inspiration behind it to life.

And while Unbreakable is definitely a show for adults only, Netflix has some great picks to inspire kids to see a new side of themselves too – even if they change their minds every five seconds like Kimmy changes facial expressions.
