There’s really no reason to contain our excitement, fellow parents. That seemingly elusive late summer beauty, otherwise known as the first day of school, is so close we can almost taste its candy-flavored promises.
And yes of course I loved spending the summer shuttling my babies to and from swimming, dance, camp and every single museum and zoo within a 50 mile radius of the city.
And yes of course I loved stargazing and roadtripping and hiking with their sweet little faces.
But now that three months of non-stop-children-in-my-face has come to an end, I think it’s ok to celebrate the return of those prodigal hours I take for granted the other nine months of the year.
Until then, there’s still time left to make the most of late-night Family Movie Nights and chances to get away with a little too much TV watching.
Besides, Netflix can help ease them back into the educational mindset with picks that emphasize school is cool.
Older kids will dig the brand new Project Mc², an all-new original series premiering on August 7 that proves smarts are the hottest BTS trend.
Following four teen friends-turned-spies, these girls are all about showing their fellows how to use science savvy and math skills to save the world as secret agents.
My two are obsessed Ever After High and the offspring of their favorite fairytale characters and can’t wait to watch the new Ever After High: Way Too Wonderland adventure (debuting August 14). Young viewers will not only get to find out what the royals and rebels from the spell-binding boarding school are up to, but find out how inspiring writing your own life story can be.
The swing-going set will like learning about new experiences with Dinotrux from DreamWorks.
Premiering Aug. 14, the all-new original series will showcase prehistoric hybrid dinosaur-construction vehicles-turned-friends who team up to solve problems while discovering that even the most uncommon of duos can form friendships that last a lifetime.
They can also go anywhere and be anything by letting their imaginations soar on a Reading Rainbow journey (now available to stream!), along with other favorites like Magic School Bus, The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and Odd Squad.
And for teens and parents looking for a little back-to-school cool, there’s High School Musical, Billy Madison and The School of Rock.
(As always, head over to Common Sense Media for in-depth descriptions and comprehensive reviews that can help you determine what’s best for your children to watch.)
