Scroll through any major social network, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens spoilers are flowing as freely as Chewbacca’s body hair.
Like many others, I avoided browsing all things Star Wars entirely, preferring to experience it all from opening crawl to final frame, untouched by theories and rumors idling in the digital ether.
And after seeing Episode VII at a top-secret, heavily guarded press screening on Tuesday, I can assure you that it was worth it because there has been an awakening in the best way possible.
That Star Wars magic is back, delivering another chapter in an epic, 30-year journey that is teeming with mystery and nostalgia. Warm and familiar with modern homages to vintage legend, the cohesive whole is a surprising rush that leaves you with more questions than answers.
Old-school fans will be gratified by Abrams’ humble approach to this installment in the saga, a deferential tribute to George Lucas’ original story, updated with a brilliant cast, practical effects and relatively well-placed CGI.
And while the movie has its flaws for sure, they don’t matter in the grand scheme of things, especially since its strengths far outweigh its faults.
On the eve of what is arguably the most highly anticipated movie release of all time, go into it expecting nothing and hoping for everything.
Get ready to fall deeper in love with everything you remember from your childhood.
Episode VII has its heart in the right place. Just wait – your head will be filled with all the intergalactic feels.
There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?
You will tonight.
